Water Department

The Town water system is comprised of radio read meters that allow for drive by collection of water consumption data. In general, access to your home for meter reading is not necessary, unless there is a problem with the meter encoder that sends out the water meter data to the radio wave.

Meters are used to collect water consumption information and the O & M (Operation and Maintenance) and the Reserve portion of your bill is based on water consumed and measured by your meter. Please ensure that all appliances and household water sources (toilets, sinks, water heaters, spigots, yard hydrants, etc.) are in good working order to minimize your water consumption. In a day, a running toilet can consume up to 8,000 gallons of water!

Meters are read quarterly (every three months) for billing purposes, however are also read on non-billing months to determine if there are any potential problems. Unusually high consumption may indicate a leak, or unusually low usage may indicate a problem with the meter. If a potential problem is identified, the Town will reach out to the property owner. As such, please keep your contact information current.

Understanding Your Water Bill

Water bills are based on a minimum charge to cover service and infrastructure costs and includes consumption of up to 12,000 gallons per quarter. Consumption beyond 12,000 gallons is billed based on the amount consumed.

Debt Re-Pay – A fixed amount charged to all properties in which the water distribution mains are adjacent, whether or not they are connected. This cost covers past debt incurred by the Town of Louisville to install water service and to maintain large infrastructure projects (water plant, for example).

Operation & Maintenance (O&M) – A fixed amount (when consumption is at or below the minimum) to support everyday operations and maintenance of the water system. Consumption beyond 12,000 gallons per quarter will increase this cost dependent on amount consumed.

Reserve – A fixed amount (when consumption is at or below the minimum) to support anticipated larger maintenance issues with the water system. Consumption beyond 12,000 gallons per quarter will increase this cost dependent on amount consumed.
